kilts: men in skirts embracing & breaking cultural gender norms. androgyny + tartan + streetwear

in my first semester at George brown fashion techniques and design, i unprecedently competed and won the school-wide Dressed 2 kilt design competition. i was inspired by the gender fluidity of kilts and paired that with my own streetwear aesthetic. upon winning i was sponsored by the Strathmore woolens company and received authentic Scottish tartan to create these designs myself. i even had a friend in the George Brown fashion Jewelry program make custom pins to accessorize my collection with.

i took two months to create this mini collection that was then premiered at the annual dressed to kilt fashion show held in Toronto, i then took it to show it at the school-wide end of year fashion show as well.
